Victorian Poets Project
In this unit, you and your classmates will be responsible for giving a group presentation on an assigned Victorian author. Your presentation should include the following components:
Lesson plan—A typed, lesson plan must be submitted for your group as a whole the day before the presentation. The format should be as follows:
Lesson Title:
Objectives:
Materials:
Procedures:
Assessment:
Biographical information on the author—In addition to presenting information included in your textbook, you should research your author’s life and include additional significant material in your lesson
Critical analysis of the selected works—For this part of your presentation, you will need to do some library research to locate several scholars’ views of the assigned poems, which you will then share with your classmates.
Coverage of assigned literary techniques and study and discussion questions—Each group will be given a list of literary techniques and study and discussion questions to cover in the lesson. You will be graded more on your effort to cover the material than on the correctness of your responses. The critical analysis your group finds should help you comprehend your author’s poems and fulfill this requirement.
A visual aid—This can relate to your author, the poetry, or both.
A review activity—This should review your main points at the end of your presentation.
A works cited page—One should be submitted for your group as a whole. Your works cited page must include at least three sources and should pertain to both the biographical information and critical analysis you present.
An account of each member’s contributions—This information must be typed and should include parenthetical citations when appropriate.
A minimum of five appropriate exam questions—While I cannot guarantee that these questions will be appear on the unit exam, I will consider them when composing the test.
Your group will be evaluated on the content, creativity, clarity, effectiveness, and preparation of your presentation, as well as on your lesson plan, visual aid, and works cited page. Neatness and attention to mechanics and MLA formatting in all components will also be taken into account.
This presentation is worth 100 points. Because the end of the school year is quickly approaching, absences and excuses will not be tolerated; each group MUST be prepared to present its lesson on the day it is scheduled. Failure to present the lesson when it is due will result in a zero on this assignment.
